SUZYN WALDMAN

While growing up in Boston, dreaming of a career on Broadway and sleeping with a transistor radio under her pillow, it seemed that Suzyn Waldman was foreshadowing a successful career in musical theatre and broadcast radio.

Suzyn was the first-ever voice to be heard on the first all-sports radio station, New York’s WFAN. She was the first female electronic beat reporter; the first woman to host NBA pre and post-game shows; the first woman to do play-by-play on a nationally-televised Major League Baseball game; and in 2005, the became the first woman full-time color commentator for a Major League club, the New York Yankees.

An acclaimed journalist and successful musical theatre performer, Suzyn Waldman has won an International Radio Award for her live and emotional reporting during the San Francisco Earthquake in 1989, as well as a Gracie Award. Most recently, Suzyn was inducted into the New York State Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame along with her long-time New York Yankees radio partner, John Sterling.
