PAT ST. JOHN

Pat St. John had only a few months experience on the radio at his 10-watt high school radio station, and a few months as an announcer on WWWW-FM/Detroit when he was hired at the 50,000 watt CKLW-AM “The Big 8” in Windsor/Detroit at the age of 18. He was hired at crosstown WKNR-AM/Detroit, the legendary “Keener 13”. From there he joined ABC Radio’s WRIF 101.1 FM, an album-oriented radio station in Detroit.

It wasn’t long before ABC Radio offered him a position in New York City. At 22, he joined sister station WPLJ-FM where he stayed for 15 years. During that time his afternoon show became the #1 PM drive show in America, per Arbitron cume. From there he joined competing station 102.7 WNEW-FM for 11 years, hostingmidday before assuming Morning Drive, then becoming Program Director. Later he joined 104.3 WAXQ-FM/New York and Oldies 101.1 WCBS-FM/New York. He totaled 42 years on New York radio, at the time making him New York City’s longest running on-air radio personality.

In October 1998, Pat was hired as one of the first programmers at CD Radio, now known as SiriusXM. In 2023, he continues to be heard live six days a week on SiriusXM’s 60s Gold channel, having spent 25+ years on satellite radio.

With more than 50 years on radio, in 2023, Pat St. John is an inductee in the Radio Hall of Fame.
