JED THE FISH
Jed The Fish, born Edwin Gould, was an early supporter of New Wave and Alternative music bands. He hosted afternoon drive on KROQ-FM in Los Angeles from 1978-2012. His talent behind the microphone helped KROQ establish itself as one of the most influential radio stations of the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Jed the Fish began his radio career in high school, earning his First-Class Radio telephone Operator License at the age of 16 and hosting a radio program targeting the youth market.
Jed was a graduate of the USC Annenberg School of Journalism. His laid-back presentation style and unique taste in music defined his success in attracting Southern California audiences. A list of the bands he brought to the fore reads like a history of rock music: Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The B’52’s, The Pretenders, Blondie, The Ramones, among others.
He hosted the syndicated countdown show “Out of Order” from 1994-2013 and was named Billboard’s Modern Rock personality of the year in 1997 and 1999. In 2004, he was named one of L.A.’s top radio personalities. Jed the Fish didn’t just play the hits. He was the disruption, the detour, the spark in the signal.
In 2025, Jed The Fish received a Legends Induction into the Radio Hall of Fame.
