HELEN LITTLE

Helen Little’s career in radio includes many decades as an air personality, as well as a program director.  Her most notable success may be the decades she’s enjoyed in New York City, debuting on WBLS FM in the 1990’s, before programming Power 105.1 FM WWPR FM and then hosting middays on the nation’s most-listened-to-radio-station, Lite 106.7 or WLTW-FM for a long duration.

Little’s radio career was initiated in North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, as she concluded her college education. She went on to be heard in Raleigh and Charlotte radio stations before being heard in Dallas and later, Philadelphia. In Philadelphia, she was program director of urban contemporary music formatted WUSL FM, and later, heard on-air on 106.1 The Breeze. It was New York City’s radio experience she is best known for, where her radio audience with adult contemporary music listeners took firm hold.

For several years, Helen Little took leave from broadcast radio to work within the record label industry before returning to the radio industry.

She’s forever chronicled in the Library of Congress, part of the Radio Preservation Task Force’s Black Women in Radio: A Historical Collection and received induction into the National Black Radio and North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Halls of Fame. She also broke ground as the first Black female Operations Manager of an FM station.

In 2026, Helen Little received induction into the Radio Hall of Fame.
