DALE SOMMERS

When it comes to overnight radio, late night truck drivers, known as “long haulers”, were informed and entertained by Dale Sommers, known to his myriads of listeners as “Truckin’ Bozo.”  His overnight show achieved ratings levels that were the envy of many drive-time radio hosts while serving as a tireless advocate for truck drivers and promoting their causes.

Sommers’ overnight truckers show aired on WLW-AM / Cincinnati from 1984-2004 before moving to Sirius/XM Radio’s Road Dog channel for afternoons.  Before becoming the Truckin’ Bozo, Sommers worked for several radio stations including Seattle, San Diego, Miami, Kansas City and Indianapolis.

In addition to his talent behind the microphone, Sommers was a Kentucky Colonel and an amateur ham radio operator.

The Truckin’ Bozo nickname came from his former boss at WLW, Randy Michaels, who called Sommers “Bozo” after he kicked a wall which came crashing down across a desk, prompting Michaels to call him “Bozo”, in reference to the then well-known clown.
