BERNICE JUDIS


Bernice Judis became the Station Manager of WNEW-AM in 1935, after a single year of working at the brand-new station. Under her leadership, she developed music and news programming that allowed WNEW AM to become the most successful, admired and emulated station in America for many years. She introduced a 24-hour format, hiring the likes of Stan Shaw, Martin Block as host of the Make Believe Ballroom, Frank Sinatra and Gene Rayburn, among others.

Bernice Judis introduced an hourly newscast after the Pearl Harbor attacks in 1941, putting forth a new presentation that was emulated by many radio stations thereafter. Bernice Judis retired from WNEW AM in 1954, and later managed radio stations in both Atlanta and Birmingham, AL.

In 2022, Bernice Judis received a Legends induction into the Radio Hall of Fame.
